Science knowledge only adds to the excitement and mystery and the awe of a flower.
Richard Feynman, Ode to a flower (1981).
We scientists, like poets, are sensitive to the beauty of a rose, at the centimeter dimension, but we are also capable of seeing beyond, at deeper levels of description. Technology is accelerating the convergence between science and art, providing an enabling environment for the combination of both fields. Computational simulation, augmented reality, virtual reality and blockchain technologies can be used to explore and emphasize the beauty at the inner structure, which only adds more beauty to the excitement, mystery and wonder of a flower.
Cyclodextrins (CDs) are cyclic sugars with many industrial applications and significant impact in our daily lives. Hardly any functionalized CD is manufactured as a single structure, but as a distribution of molecules with different number and location of chemical groups, characterized by an average degree of substitution (DS). These are critical aspects influencing CD binding, and thus could potentially modulate biological and pharmacological effects. Each of our collections has been created using computational chemistry and statistical algorithms that take into account the different probabilities of each substitution on each hydroxyl group, depending on the employed synthesis conditions.
